New loading bays for new client in Cambridge

Back in June of 2016, we were approached by Steinhoff UK with an enquiry for a project they were working on for part of their group, Horatio Myers in Cambridge. Since 1962, Myers have been manufacturing beds that are more comfortable than ever, giving honest value for money. The Steinhoff Group also includes such UK retail outlets Bensons for Beds and Harvey’s Furniture Stores.

The first part of the requirement was for 4 new dock levellers, with pouring trays. We quoted 4 ARSL Armo Swing Lip Dock Levellers, which were supplied in a size of 2000mm width x 2000mm length and a minimum pit depth of 610mm. The operating parameters were 290mm both above and below dock. The lip length was 400mm, complete with a 5° curvature for when loading above dock with a 6 tonne loading capacity in accordance with BS EN 1398.

The pouring trays were 2400mm wide, 2200mm long and a depth of 600mm. These 3 sided pouring tray frames are made to accept Armo dock levellers, in a suspended frame design with reversed angle.

We supplied and installed 10 ARIS Armo Inflatable Dock Shelters in an overall size of 3500m width x 4000mm height and projection of 900mm. The head seals were 700mm wide and 1200mm long. The heavy-duty dock shelters are suitable for accommodating vehicles of varying heights whilst at the same time providing a good, tight seal.

Along with these, we also supplied and installed 10 insulated ARRS Roller Shutter Doors. These were in an opening width of 2600mm, 3000mm opening height and headroom of 500mm. These doors are manufactured using insulated lath with a micro rib finish

Finally we supplied and installed 10 sets of each of ARDB Loading Dock Buffers, ARBD Wheel Alignment Guides and ARTR LED Traffic Lights.

The dock buffers are made from heavy-duty solid polyethylene. These are fixed to a solid steel plate, which is in turn attached to the dock face to provide a long lasting fixing.

The wheel guides allow the reversing vehicle slots between the guides, ensuring that the vehicle docks safely and centrally onto the loading bay.

The traffic lights were red over green LED lights, provided in fully sealed black moulded units, complete with small sun visors. These are interlocked to the loading bay, so the light shows green when the door is closed and red whenever the door is open.

Darrell Hopwood, Managing Director, said of this project: A great project for us delivered across 2 phases on a very quick turnaround, for phase 1 from client order to installing product onsite, we managed to achieve this in just 5 weeks
