New equipment for loading bays for Carlisle client

A new customer to Armo, United Biscuits approached us in September of 2016, as they were looking at refurbishment of some loading bays at their site in Carlisle. United Biscuits are the leading manufacturer and marketer of biscuits in the UK.

We visited site, were able to provide a competitive quote and the order was then placed.

We supplied and installed 4 ARTL Telescopic Lip Dock Levellers. These were in a size of 2000mm wide x 2500mm length and a minimum pit depth of 610mm. The operating parameters of the levellers were 310mm above dock and 290m below dock.  The telescopic lip length was 500mm, complete with a 5° curvature for when loading above dock with a 6 tonne loading capacity in accordance with BS EN 1398.

We also supplied and installed 4 AROD Insulated Sectional Overhead Doors in a size of 2500mm opening width, 3000mm opening height and headroom of 3400mm (3 bays) and headroom of 2500mm (last bay).  All of the door tracks are our galvanised steel ‘J’ type, which are designed to give free and easy running for bearing rollers. These tracks are mounted onto a heavy-duty galvanised jamb angle.  The perimeter of the doors are fully sealed, as well as the intermediate panel joints, providing most effective weather seal to the doors.

We also supplied and installed 4 ARIS Inflatable Dock Shelters. These were manufactured in a size of 3500mm wide, 3600mm high, with projection of 900mm. The width of the side seal was 650mm and length of the head seal was 1200mm. Our heavy duty dock inflatable shelters are suitable for accommodating vehicles of varying heights whilst at the same time providing a good tight seal.

For safety we also installed 4 ARTR LED Traffic Lights and 4 sets of ARDB Loading Dock Buffers for the loading bays.

Finally, we installed Integrated Control Systems on all of the loading bays. The loading back doors are interlocked to the dock leveller, so the leveller cannot ne operated until the loading bay door is open. The traffic lights are also interlocked to the door, so that the light shows green when the door is closed and red when open. The inflatable dock shelters are interlocked to the loading bay door and traffic light to ensure correct usage.

The Managing Director of Armo, Darrell Hopwood said “Our client had been experiencing some health and safety issues with the old existing equipment, after quite a lengthy tendering and approval process we were really pleased to be awarded this contract”
