Although the use of a roller shutter door as loading bay doors has diminished greatly they still play a part in general use around factories and warehouse facilities.
Roller shutters are made by interlocking steel laths to form a door curtain; the curtain is rolled around a circular drum which is usually driven by a directly coupled electric operator. A very simple device which is often used in unheated areas of buildings, this is especially true where aesthetics are not particularly important and the galvanised finish provides a degree of corrosion protection.
