New loading bays for customer in Harrow

In June last year, TSL Projects, who we had dealt with previously, came to Armo, with details of a project they were working on for Bakkavor Foods in Harrow.  Bakkavor specialise in making and developing private label prepared foods for the top global grocery retailers and well-known international foodservice operators.

The client had requirements for new loading bays, so after we had completed site visits and quoted the various components needed, the order was placed in August.

For their High Care Bay, we supplied and installed one model ARGL Armo Goods LiftThe lift was manufactured in a width of 2000mm, a length of 3000mm and nominal depth of 350mm. The lift stroke was 1800mm.  The load capacity was 2000kg for a partially distributed load and the order required Food Safe Bellows to surround the lift.

Safety with lifting tables is paramount and Armo lifts are fully compliant with BS EN 1570 incorporating all the safety features you would expect:

  • Peripheral safe edge with reset feature
  • Food safe bellows on all 4 sides of lift
  • Designed hand rails, barriers and interlocked gates
  • Rupture valves in the unlikely event of hose burst
  • Easily accessible maintenance prop
  • Remote /on-board emergency stop
  • Low voltage dead-man controls

For their Low Care Bay, we supplied and installed an ARVL Armo Lifting Table. This is manufactured and designed for loading / unloading goods from an articulated vehicle. This particular project called for the capacity to be a 2500kg limit with electro hydraulic lip. Made to a width of 2000mm, length of 3200mm and depth of 450mm. The lift stroke was 1800mm.

The Armo lifting table is simple and robust in design and construction, from the rolled steel angle base frame through to the solid steel plate arms, right through to the structured platform, the lift is constructed to last.

Also included for the Low Care Bay was a set of Buffer Posts. These were 305 x 305 steel beams, 2300mm long, for casting into floor slab 1000mm below ground, 1300mm above ground.

For both High Care and Low Care Bays, we supplied and installed the following equipment:

AROD Insulated Sectional Overhead Doors for each bay.  The door for the High Care Bay was made to an opening width of 1900mm, height of 2000mm, with headroom of 500mm and with a standard lift track system. The door for the Low Care Bay was made to an opening width of 2800mm, height of 3000mm, with headroom of 500mm and with a standard lift track system.

The door tracks are our galvanised steel ‘J’ type, which are designed to give free and easy running for bearing rollers, these tracks are mounted onto a heavy-duty galvanised jamb angle.  The perimeter of the doors are fully sealed, as well as the intermediate panel joints, providing most effective weather seal to the doors.

We supplied and installed an ARIS Inflatable Dock Shelter for each bay these were an overall width of 3500mm, overall height of 3600mm and projection of 900mm. The width of the side seal was 700mm and the length of the head seal was 1500mm. Our heavy-duty inflatable dock shelters are suitable for accommodating vehicles of varying heights, whilst at the same time providing a good, tight seal.

Finally, for both bays, we installed the Salvo (trapped key) Loading Bay Safety System. The Castell Salvo Safety System prevents the accidental drive-away of a vehicle during loading or unloading of goods at a loading bay. The Castell Salvo Safety system links the articulated trailer to the loading bay door during the loading or unloading of goods. For more information on Castell’s Salvo Safety Systems please click here.

Managing Director Darrell Hopwood, said of this project “For this food industry environment we went for galvanised lifting tables, complete with white food-safe lift bellows, we manufactured locally and installed grade 304 stainless steel hand-railing, gates, and chequer plate flooring to the lift”
