Armo was privileged to provide one of our Dock Levellers to Gatwick Airport, the second busiest airport in the UK with a staggering 43 Million passengers passing through the airport in 2016. Gatwick opened as an aerodrome in the late 1920s, and has been in use for commercial flights since 1933. The airport has two terminals, the North Terminal and the South Terminal, which cover areas of 98,000 m² (1,050,000 sq ft) and 160,000 m² (1,700,000 sq ft) respectively. It operates as a single-runway airport, using a main runway with a length of 3,316 m (10,879 ft). A secondary runway is available but, due to its proximity to the main runway, can only be used if that is out of use.

Model ARSL Swing Lip Dock Leveller

 The Airport required 1no Model ARSL Swing Lip Dock Leveller, which was supplied with a width at 2000mm and a nominal length of 2000mm with a pit depth of 600mm. A Suspended frame was also supplied with the installation to support the Dock Leveller in the pit. The operating parameters of the Dock Leveller were 300mm above dock and 300mm below dock. The lip length was 400mm, complete with a 5° curvature for when loading above dock with a 6 tonne loading capacity in accordance with BS EN 1398.

To complete the installation of this project, 450mm x 250mm x 100mm Model ARDB loading dock buffers were provided. Armo buffers are manufactured from heavy duty solid rubber, normally fixed to a primed and painted solid steel backing plate using M24 fixings, the plate in turn is bolted back to the dock face and additionally welded to the dock leveller frame to provide a long lasting solid fixing.
